South Warrnambool juniors Marcus Herbert, 14, and George Stevens, 12, will represent Victoria at School Sport Australia championships.
Herbert will play a midfield role for the under 15 side in Perth in July, while Stevens expects to line up at centre half-back for the under 12 team in Darwin in August.
The pair is excited to test itself at national level for the first time.
“It should be good, from what I saw at my tryouts, it should be pretty much the same as that, good competition,” Stevens said.
Herbert follows older brother Liam, who has represented Vic Country in basketball, as a state-level athlete.
The Emmanuel College student also plays basketball and narrowly missed out on a Vic Country under 16 spot.
He is part of a basketball national intensive training program.
Meanwhile, Hampden league footballers Jarrod Korewha, James Gow and Shannon Beks have made the initial Vic Country under 19 training squad.
The VFL-listed trio will push for a berth in the final side to play VAFA on July 8.
Koroit-aligned Gow was named Geelong’s best in its VFL win on the weekend playing as a 23rd man.
Korewha, who also plays for the Saints, and the South Warrnambool-listed Beks are honing their skills via North Ballarat.
