The school council met to discuss the outcome of the meeting, and president Michael West confirmed Education Minister James Merlino said a case manager would be sent within three weeks to address concerns with health, safety and overcrowding.
Council vice-president Elaine Knowles has previously said her son, Hugh, was accidentally knocked over in the school yard due to a lack space.
Prior to the 2014 state election, the Andrews Government promised it would build a new facility for the school, and last year a Wollaston Road site was purchased.
Mr West said in last week’s meeting the education minister “reaffirmed his commitment to the building of the school”.
“We look forward to working closely with the government in the coming months to ensure we are in the best position heading into the next round of funding,” he said.
In parliament last week, South West Coast MP Roma Britnell raised an adjournment matter regarding funding for Warrnambool Special Developmental School, which means Mr Merlino has 30 days to respond.
Mrs Britnell asked the education minister to confirm the school would receive funding to build the new school in the 2017-2018 financial year, and raised the overcrowding issues.
“The school was built for 30 students; there are now 131 enrolled at the school,” she said. “There are three separate lunch breaks because the kids cannot all fit into the playground at once.”
