Jameka developed the condition on a float trip back from Sydney after scoring an impressive victory in the group one BMW at Rosehill in March.
Maher said he was disappointed his champion mare would not have a chance to win back-to-back Caulfield Cups.
“Jameka is recovering and improving every day but she'll need an extended break to recover from it,” he said.
“I've never had a horse with travel sickness before and it's unfortunate that Jameka is the first one.
“She's been very consistent and improved each year, so it's a big shame not to have her racing in the spring but her health and well-being is the first thing you worry about.”
Jameka has won nearly $5 million in stakemoney for her connections.
