The two clubs have had their fair share of players shift from one side to the other over the years, to the extent that Owen notes almost the entire Saints team is made up of former Blues.
“There’s Emily (Batt), Jacqui (Bowman), me, Carly (Pulling) and Rosie (Emily-Rose Finnigan),” she said.
During her time at Reid Oval, Owen racked up multiple A grade best and fairest awards and played in two A grade premierships.
In the Blues’ defence, she played alongside current Warrnambool coach Emma Cust and Sarah O’Keeffe, and was in the same team as goaler Amy Wormald, who is a former Saint.
“There is a little bit of a feeling there, of nervousness, I guess,” Owen said. “I’m still really good friends with a lot of the girls at the club.”
The Saints snuck ahead of the Blues on the after a solid win against finals contender Hamilton Kangaroos last week, with a hard slog expected for the battle of the Hampden league’s two undefeated teams.
“If the game allows, we’ll make a few changes, just to try different combinations, particularly in the attacking end,” Owen said.
Owen joked that star midcourter Bowman could get another crack at goal attack after playing there for the final 20 seconds last week.
“Unfortunately we didn’t get the ball down to her, but she’s saying she had 100 per cent efficiency because she didn’t miss a goal,” Owen laughed.
