The inaugural Westcoast Open Amateur event will see male and female golfers take on 18 holes at Warrnambool on Friday afternoon and another 18 on Saturday morning, before heading to Port Fairy for a 36-hole round on Sunday.
Among the field are six Warrnambool and Port Fairy members, including four who are part of the clubs’ junior development program.
Caleb Perry, Jhett Perry, Will MacKenzie and Matt Cameron will be hoping their home-course knowledge can give them an edge.
Warrnambool Golf Club manager Trevor Brown said there was a handicap limit in place of nine of men and 15 for ladies for the competition.
“They’re all top-notch amateur golfers,” he said. “They really are the cream of the amateurs’ (crop).
“This is a new event for us down here, but it’s also a new concept for Golf Victoria, who are using these 72-hole events as qualifying events for the Vic Open next year.”
