The former Warrnambool Standard photographer and journalist is hosting a photo-essay exhibition at the Warrnambool Art Gallery this month after rediscovering the 60 year-old memories.
Entitled Nasho ‘57: 98 days at Pucka the exhibition is a candid photographic essay of life between January and April 1957 for the 14th National Service Training Battalion.
Mr Suggett took the 35 photos with a Rolleicord twin-lens reflex camera.
“They haven’t been fixed of blemishes and they are uncropped,” he said. “After 60 years they are in very good condition.”
He is hoping the images will give an insight into a past era.
“These are the relaxed soldiers. Waiting in line for trunk phone calls, enjoying evening sing-a-longs and queuing for mail from home.”
The exhibition will run until 12 June.
