Bradley Gauchi, 30, of Cordina Court, was told by magistrate Cynthia Toose that he was on his last chance after taking the bike valued at $600 which breached two lots of bail.

Police officers told a bail/remand application hearing that it was believed that Mr Gauchi was a heavy ice user and had been trafficking to support his habit.

Mr Gauchi said he had taken the bike because there was a car load of people looking for him and he wanted to get away.

Earlier: A DOGGED resident has taken a photo of a bike thief and followed a bus to his home before the offender was arrested by police.

Warrnambool police Sergeant Callum McKinnon said that at 4.50pm Sunday a bike was stolen from a Howard Street home in Warrnambool.

A witness followed the bike thief and took a photo of him on his mobile phone.

The offender tried to hide the stolen bike at the South West Institute of TAFE and the witness then spotted the thief at a bus stop.

He then followed the bus and watched as the offender went home.

Police went to the offender's home and arrested him at 6.30pm.

The 30-year-old was interviewed, charged and remanded in custody to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday for a bail/remand hearing.

​The bike was also recovered.

The offending breached the man's current bail conditions and he has an extensive criminal history.

The offences he was on bail for include trafficking ice, reckless conduct endanger life and dangerous driving while being pursued by police.

"It was a pretty fair effort by the witness," Sergeant McKinnon said.
