The Power, who were the equal highest-scoring team in 2016, have taken their scoring game to another level after thumping fellow finals hopeful South Rovers by 133 points at Walter Oval on Saturday.
The returning Ben Fraser picked up where he left off seven years ago, booting nine goals, while Scott Judd made the most of his forward rotations with five majors.
“Especially Judd and Fraser, I think they would’ve kicked a few behinds as well, so it could’ve been even more,” Power coach Danny Finn said.
“(Fraser) took a fair few marks, but at the same time he was able to bring the ball to the ground in a few contests … that brought the likes of Judd and the Harkin boys into it.”
Former Cobden ball-winner Sam Harkin slotted three goals, while his brother Matt, also a midfielder, kicked two in the first quarter before hurting his knee in the 26.15 (171) to 5.8 (38) win.
The Power hit the ground running, slotting through five goals to none in the opening term and six to one in the second.
They came out even stronger after the main break, booting an incredible 12 goals to the shellshocked Lions’ two in the third quarter, before a quieter three-goal effort in the last.
The performance was a big tick for the Power, who entered the game with a host of new players among their ranks.
