Joe Kenna’s men are primed for more improvement in 2017 as they strive to build on a ninth place finish in the Warrnambool and District Football Netball League last season.
Kenna, a second-year coach, said he spent the pre-season urging his players to consider the importance of a strong start in the league.
“Last season we were a bit lethargic, and didn’t get our first win until about round eight,” he said.
“I’ve been drumming into the guys how important a good start is, and to have everybody available and firing. I think in my second year here the guys have a clearer understanding of – not what I demand – but what I expect, as well.
“I think we finally got it together in second half of last season – that being how we want to play – and started pushing good sides.
“I hope we can carry that form into our start here.”
The club has signed Sam Negrello from Simpson, while Tim Condon has departed for North Warrnambool Eagles. Dan Ryan is unlikely to suit up in red, white and blue.
