Mr Suggett will host his first photo essay at the Warrnambool Art Gallery later this month and needs help adding names to his 60 year-old photos.
The former national serviceman will exhibit his unique work entitled Nasho ‘57 – 98 Days at Pucka from April 27 to June 12.
The then 19 year-old spent 98 days photographing his fellow members of the 14th National Service Training Battalion, Royal Australian Artillery in Puckapunyal.
“These are my experiences of national service in the Australian Army,” he said. “I was one of the blokes in the group. Given the passage of time, I am aware that some of those in the exhibition have already died, but their images as fit young men are their memorial.”
The photographs in the upcoming exhibition have never been published.
“I found the negatives and decided they should be used. Some of those pictured have already dies,” Mr Suggett said.
“I can’t remember most of the names, so I am not using names.
“These blokes are remembered by these photographs.
“I have printed the images without cropping, and I have not had imperfections corrected.
“Fortunately the negatives survived quite well.”
Mr Suggett would like to hear from any of his former Nasho colleagues or families.
