The 2016 Big V championship winner drained 26 points and had four assists in the Seahawks’ 88-85 road win against Sunbury Jets on Saturday night.
Seahawks coach Matt Alexander said the former SEABL-listed Gynes provided clutch plays in the dying minutes.
“He was amazing at the end of the game,” he said.
“He made big plays, and he did that last week as well.
“It’s very good for his confidence. He is captain this year and he’s definitely playing like a captain.”
The Seahawks, who were without the injured James Mitchell, also benefited from Xavier Johnson-Blount’s 27 points and 15 rebounds and teenage guard Jay Rantall’s nine points off the bench.
Alexander said the Seahawks’ self-belief helped shake off the Jets.
“They’re always very calm,” he said of his roster.
“We expect to come back and win. It’s a good feeling.”
Carly Pulling and Maddy White combined for 22 points as the Mermaids ground out a gritty 48-43 win over Craigieburn Eagles on the road.
“Our first and third quarters were great and our second quarter let us down,” coach Louise Brown said.
“In the fourth quarter they went to a zone, slowed us down and we struggled to score against a zone, so we’ll be working on that at training this week.”
Brown was rapt to have Maddy White, Molly McKinnon, Lily Killey and Holly Greene available.
