The defence team for Byron Bay woman Sara Connor has mounted an impassioned last ditch defence arguing that the prosecutors' demand for eight years' jail was "1000 per cent not fair".

Ms Connor has just days until she learns her fate, with judges to sentence her next Monday over the alleged fatal group assault of Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa on a Kuta beach last August.
Prosecutors requested that Ms Connor, 46, serve the same jail sentence as her British DJ boyfriend, David Taylor, even though the couple testified that she had nothing to do with the police officer's death.
Mr Taylor, 34, has admitted to bashing Mr Sudarsa with weapons including a Bintang beer bottle in what he says was self-defence, but Ms Connor insists that her only role was to try to break up the brawl.
The fight started after Mr Taylor accused the police officer of being a bogus cop and stealing Ms Connor's handbag.
Ms Connor and Mr Taylor both face alternative charges of murder, fatal group assault or assault leading to death.
Prosecutors say they accept that neither meant to kill Mr Sudarsa, a police officer in Bali for 35 years, and have therefore not requested they be charged with murder.
However Ms Connor's lawyers believe none of the three charges are appropriate in her case.
They argue the only charge Ms Connor should have faced is concealing evidence, after she confessed to cutting up Mr Sudarsa's identity cards, allegedly to protect him from identity theft.
"One thousand per cent this is not fair," Ms Connor's lawyer, Erwin Siregar, said outside the Denpasar District Court.
Ms Connor's defence team were especially upset by the prosecution's argument that Ms Connor must be guilty because she had expressed regret over the incident.
"How different my life would have been now if my bag was never stolen and the taxi driver had taken me to the police station that night," Ms Connor lamented.
"Does the lawyer believe that because Sara Connor's bag went missing it's appropriate for the victim to die?" prosecutor Kadek Wahyudi Ardika asked the court earlier this month.
Mr Siregar said that as a loving person Ms Connor regretted that the police officer had died but this did not mean she was guilty.
"The defendant felt sorry. (She felt) that if only she didn't come to Bali then none of this would have happened. If only she hadn't gone to the beach. That's what always comes to her mind, causing her regret."
Mr Siregar asked the judges to find Ms Connor not guilty of murder, fatal group assault or assault leading to death and to restore her good name.
"May God guide the judges in reaching their final decision," he said.
Although judges can choose to impose a greater or lesser sentence they generally agree with the charge requested by the prosecutors.
If they find her not guilty of either of the three offences she will be free to return to Byron Bay, where she would be reunited with her two young sons.
"Sara should be released," Mr Siregar said.
Mr Siregar was planning to read a letter to the court from Ms Connor's sons on Wednesday, but Ms Connor ultimately asked him not to do so.
The verdict and sentence for both Ms Connor and Mr Taylor, who are being tried separately, will be delivered on March 13.
