Welcome to Forever Young Magazine. Inside we explore the lifestyles and opportunities of seniors in south-west Victoria. Staying active, keeping fit, eating healthy and enjoying life is what it’s all about.
We have provided some insights and tips into how you might achieve this.
We also catch up with Tracey Matheson, the community services manager at the Cobden District Health Service who shares with us her thoughts on fitness as you age.
“It’s important to look at your fitness closely as you get older. Keeping fit keeps your muscle tone in check so helps keep arthritis at a minimum and stops you getting physical activity soreness. It also helps with blood pressure and weight gain – which none of us like,” she said.
She also said maintaining an active lifestyle can also help with your overall mental health.
“It also keeps your mind healthy getting out in the fresh air and gets you out talking to people. It’s never a good thing to sit at home bored, as this is when depression can set in – so to avoid this we need to be concentrating on keeping healthy. A healthy body equals a healthy mind and can keep us in touch with friends also.”
