Warrnambool police sergeant Dave McDonald said the P-plate drivers, who police picked up at 11.30pm, were found to be doing 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
“They stated to police they were Holden and Ford fans respectively and having a bit of fun pitting their cars against each other,” he said.
Sergeant McDonald said the men told police they were best mates.
He said the cars were intercepted at Fairy Street and both vehicles will be impounded for 30 days.
Both men will be charged and summonsed to appear in Warrnambool Magistrates Court at a later date.
