Portland Surf Life Saving Club member Andy Murrell said the combination of strong winds and days of significant swells had created “the perfect storm”, making the conditions in the bay dangerous. He said a break-up day for Nippers was being held at the beach on Sunday, and the dangerous conditions meant that planned activities had to be modified. Mr Murrell said that the beach would reopen when dangerous conditions subsided.
