FINALS may be all but off the radar for last-placed Cobden, but they showed they will still be a force to be reckoned with after knocking off the previously undefeated Mortlake on Saturday.

Cobden bowled the South West Cricket powerhouse out for 88, going on to pass the target just three wickets down.
Jake Reed proved a major frustration for the Cats, conceding just 3-5 off his 10 overs, which included an incredible seven maidens, while Darcy Meade snared 4-21, with four maidens.
“Jake Reed bowled really well – he was outstanding,” Cobden all-rounder Brent Goonan said.
“A couple of those (Mortlake) boys lost their patience with Jake bowling really tight up one end.
“It was just one of those days where I think a lot went right for us. It was just a matter of really holding catches and taking our chances.”
Goonan (49 runs) and Jack Hutt (33) led the way as Cobden replied with 7-141.
Mortlake captain Todd Lamont said their first loss for the season might sharpen his side up in the lead-in to finals.
“It’s probably not the worst thing in the world. You go into every game wanting to win … (but) having a loss, I’m not sure what effect it’ll have,” he said. “It should sharpen us up a bit. We’ve got to take something out of it because we don’t want it to happen again.”
A knock of 60 from Tommy Moloney guided Terang to a two-wicket win over Bookaar, while Hamish Huffadine (78 runs) led the way in Heytesbury Rebels’ 155-run win over Pomborneit.
