Led by Relay For Life co-ordinator Fran Hynes, chief executive officer Trevor Matheson, Brad Smith, Mark Powell and Ross Levett all took part in the shave, which is expected to raise more than $3000 for the hospital’s Relay For Life team.
The St John of God team is one of the biggest contributors to the Warrnambool event so far, raising more than $6000 in the lead up to this weekend’s event.
Ms Hynes said working at a hospital spurred on the group to take part.
“We have beautiful patients here who come and have chemo. For me personally, to choose to take my hair off is very, very different from having treatment and losing my hair, so this is my way of supporting all those lovely people who come in and don’t get a choice,” she said.
Hairdressers from Men Only donated their time for the event, and a further four St John of God staff members are expected to take part in another shave later in the week.
Ms Hynes said teams were still registering for the Relay For Life, which begins at 6.30pm Friday at the Deakin University oval.
More than 30 teams have signed up so far and up to 1200 people are expected to take part.
Relay For Life is an overnight Cancer Council fund-raiser that is also a chance to remember those who lost their battle to cancer, as well as celebrate survivors, people undergoing treatment and their families and carers.
