Fittingly, it’s the title of his one-man show – an asphalt constant that remains unchanged as the inhabitants of the small community around it deal with tragedy and surviving.
Written and starring Ewing, Hamilton Highway is part-coming-of-age story and part-exploration of small town life.
The play also deals with issues such as male suicide, indigenous history, and the harsh realities of rural living.
Ewing is accompanied by viola player Jason Bunn from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for Hamilton Highway, which is billed as “a performance of intimate storytelling and songs”.
The youngest of 10 children, Ewing grew up on a farm near Mortlake but since moving to the city, he’s carved out a burgeoning career with roles in Neighbours, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and the upcoming Newton’s Law.
Ewing performs Hamilton Highway at Wishart Gallery in Port Fairy on January 25 from 7.30pm.
