An effort of 62 runs from Paul Walker set up the victory, while razor sharp fielding guaranteed East Warrnambool could only get within 25 runs of Russells Creek’s 125 on Sunday.
New captain Cam Williams was also among the most important performers in the win, using slick glovework to complete six run-out efforts.
Creek coach and long-time player Jayaweera Bandara said the premiership was the result of hard net sessions. He said the club was already looking forward to the Sungold Twenty20 Cup.
“We lost the one-day grand final so we knew how important it was to put it in all into today,” he told The Standard.
“Somebody every week is standing up, and that is what a good, quality team is. We’re not expecting somebody to make runs every week.”
Bandara hailed the importance of both man-of-match Walker and youngster Jimmy Elford across the weekend.
“Paul was important because he batted so well in the semi-final and then to get as many as he did in the final, in was so important for us,” he said.
“Jimmy batted at number nine in the first few games. Yesterday, he came in at number four and made 104 not out. It’s (his form) is really good for the club and for him.”
