Festival chairman Reg Harry said Port Fairy had been jam-packed with tourists this summer.
“The town’s fair buzzing. It’s been our best year ever,” he said. “It’s the best summer we’ve had number-wise by far. Warrnambool, Koroit, Port Fairy – it’s a mecca for the holidaymakers.”
Mr Harry said the festival’s family-friendly free activities had brought in tourists as well as day-trippers from across the south-west.
The Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums band kicked off the Celtic Day with a marched down the main street before gathering on the Fiddler’s Green for a performance which also included solos and dancing.
Irish and Scottish dancers from Warrnambool and Mount Gambier then entertained the crowd before bands The Likely Celts and Cill-Airne took to the stage in the afternoon.
