The Warrnambool-based driver has taken out the WSS event twice before – in 2011-12 and 2012-13 – and started his latest campaign on the perfect note with a win in Adelaide on Monday night.
He was declared winner when rain forced the A-main to be called seven laps early.
“Obviously you’d like to get the checkered flag, but … it was a good way to start off speedweek,” McFadden said.
“We went good in the time trial and worked really hard to get the car real good for the heat races.”
McFadden started his heats from fifth and sixth, moving up the field to win both and book his place in the front row for the feature, where he led every lap until the rain came.
The win was the latest in a strong start to the WSS season, which McFadden leads after five rounds.
He said consistency was key for success at speedweek, though it was vital to also be on pace.
“Everyone is pretty fast at the moment, like Jamie (Veal) and Brooke (Tatnell). We’re all pretty close and competitive at the moment,” McFadden said. “You’ve got to put a whole night together (to get the points).”
Fellow south-west driver Veal was third and Darren Mollenoyux was eighth when the race was declared on Monday night.
Earlier, Veal also clocked the fastest time of the night, running a 12.542-second lap in the time trials.
The WSS speedweek also takes in races at Murray Bridge on Tuesday, Mount Gambier on Wednesday and Avalon on Friday, before finishing at Allansford’s Premier Speedway on New Year’s Day.
