Western Victoria MP Gayle Tierney visited the facilities on Monday to announce the government’s contribution of $200,000 for a wet deck upgrade.
The project will upgrade the pool’s gutters and wet deck in order to improve functionality and access to the facilities.
“The Andrews Labor Government knows how much the Mortlake community enjoys its sport,” Ms Tierney said.
“Our families deserve the best sports and recreation facilities, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.”
Moyne Shire Council will also contribute $433,200 for the project, which is set to be undertaken in 2017/2018.
A $250,000 contribution to an upgrade to the pool by Moyne Shire Council was announced in its April budget earlier in the year.
“I wish to congratulate the Moyne Shire Council on the enormous amount of work they have done on this project so far,” Ms Tierney said.
“For too long, communities all over Victoria have had to contend with ageing facilities.”
“We promised we’d help clubs update tired grounds and build the facilities they need.”
Moyne Shire’s mayor Jim Doukas was present during Monday’s announcement at the pool.
“Council have recognised the importance of the Mortlake Swimming Pool to the region by allocation $250,000 in this current budget for major capital renewal which will complement the $433,200 for the proposed installation of a wet deck,” Cr Doukas said.
“The wet deck will create a safe environment for all pool users.”
“Council is appreciative of the Victorian government’s contribution of $200,000 because it is unlikely the project could have proceeded without it."
The money provided by the state government comes from its community sports infrastructure fund, which provides grants to support facilities where communities organise and participate in sport and recreation.
