Kenneth Pillar, 55, claimed he had a coughing fit and blacked out at the wheel of his semi-trailer when it crashed on a narrow bridge in June last year, killing 61-year-old schoolteacher Maria Dowdell.
But prosecutors told the District Court that Pillar was distracted by his girlfriend in the cabin of the truck and that the pair invented the blackout story to avoid responsibility.
A jury on Tuesday returned the guilty verdict on one count of causing death by dangerous driving.
