Firefighters battled a large fire at a factory in Dandenong South on Saturday after hundreds of truck tyres ignited.

Twelve crews were sent to the blaze which started at the back of Iveco Trucks on the Princes Highway about 5pm.
People took to social media to post photos of smoke billowing from the premises.

A CFA spokeswoman said the fire was believed to have started in a pile of up to 400 truck tyres at the rear of the factory.
The community is being warned that there will be a large amount of smoke in the air.
