A HAMILTON man in his 20s is under police guard in hospital after allegedly clubbing a family member over the head.

Police said the victim in his 50s was flown by air ambulance to a Melbourne hospital with serious but not life-threatening head injuries.
It's understood a family violence incident unfolded at 9.30pm on Monday night.
The man in his 20s was arrested but had also suffered injuries and remains under a police guard at the Hamilton Base Hospital.
Police will be speaking to him on Tuesday morning and it's expected he will appear in court during the day for a bail/remand hearing.
The victims are known to each other and the cause of the incident is not known by police at this stage.
