A man found bound and trying to climb out of a car boot in Melbourne's north has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A passerby spotted the man trying to get out of the boot of a car parked on Plenty Road in South Morang about 8am Monday, and flagged down a passing police car.
Police say there was no sign that it was a prank.
Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating and will soon speak to the injured man to ascertain what took place.

The vehicle will be seized as part of the investigation.
