Police are now looking for a black or dark blue Jeep Compass after the driver evaded being caught during the 120km stretch of highway between Camperdown and Geelong.
Sergeant Murray Matthews, of Colac police, said Camperdown police were notified about 4pm to be on the look out for a vehicle seen speeding and driving erratically.
“Members sighted it at Camperdown, but were unable to safely intercept,” he said.
Sergeant Matthews said Colac police later sighted the jeep but were also unable to safely intercept the vehicle because of the traffic and the way it was being driven.
He said the speed it was travelling was well in excess of the limits of the various restriction zones throughout Colac.
Sergeant Matthews said the vehicle was also later sighted in Winchelsea and Geelong.
A registration number was obtained and further inquiries are pending
