VFF horticulture vice president Emma Germano made the plea after the Labor Party this week rejected the federal government’s proposed 19 per cent tax on working holiday makers, instead calling for a lower rate of 10.5 per cent.
Ms Germano said the debate over the proposed backpacker tax had been going on for 18 months without a resolution.
She said all sides of politics were showing complete contempt for the nation’s food producers by drawing out the debate.
The government had dropped its proposed rate from an 32.5 per cent to 19 per cent rate after a campaign by farmers.
