It backed up last week’s thrilling win against clubmate Warrnambool Blue with a 98-87 away win over City Memorial Gold on Saturday to climb to fifth position on the ladder.
The teams split the rinks two apiece, but big wins to skippers Alan Campbell (33-17) and Dennis Beriman (30-16) were enough to get the visitors over the line.
Warrnambool White skipper Ian Hatfield, who lost to Ken Bell 16-30, said it was a pleasing start to the season for the team which finished 11th last summer.
“It is a good start to the year,” he said.
“We’re yet to play the ladder leaders but hopefully we’ll be able to (challenge them).
“We’re a third-tier division one side and we’re up there above our clubmates Warrnambool Blue (sixth), so we’ve got bragging rights at the club.
“Warrnambool has got a lot of depth.”
Saturday’s trying conditions made the going tough for bowlers, but Hatfield said the rain held off, allowing play to go ahead uninterrupted.
“We had two rinks that we got away, which was good, but two went down,” Hatfield said.
“(My rink) was pretty even across the board and they got away in the last couple.”
Hatfield praised the efforts of John Carroll, who was leading for Campbell, and “set the rink up beautifully”, as well as Beriman, who put in a great performance.
In other results, Warrnambool Blue bounced back with a big 122-77 win over Lawn Tennis Red, winning three of its four rinks.
Dennington Red snuck across the line for its first win of the year, defeating Terang Green 93-90.
Ladder-leading Warrnambool Gold was too strong for Port Fairy Red, winning three rinks and losing the fourth by just two shots for an overall 108-83 triumph.
Hot on their heels is the undefeated City Memorial Red, which defeated Mortlake Blue 115-72, again winning three rinks.
Dylan Grant skippered his rink to Mortlake Blue’s only win, prevailing 23-22.
Strong results from Brian Lenehan and Scott Boschen set up a comfortable 103-81 win for Koroit Blue, despite splitting the rinks two-apiece with Timboon Gold.
