Led by Colac’s Shannon Bell, the new volunteers will work with the Rotary Club of Cobden to resurrect the family-friendly celebrations after the Rotary club last month announced it would not be able to continue the event due to a lack of helpers.
“We’re going to continue it on and learn what we can from the Rotary guys,” Mr Bell said.
“They have been doing it for 19 years, that’s a pretty impressive CV. It would be sad to see it shut down.”
The event attracts hundreds of people to Cobden’s miniature railway precinct for train rides, mini-golf, carnival, entertainment and fireworks display.
“It’s a really popular community event and a good event for children,” Mr Bell said.
“We want people to know it’s still going ahead before they make other plans.”
Mr Bell said money raised from the event would go back into the community.
