Ladies championship fours were completed on Friday, after being cancelled last Sunday due to inclement weather.
The rescheduled final, hosted by Dennington, resulted in victory going to the Warrnambool side of Brenda Hawker, Dianne Mugavin, Pat Boyde and Judy Smith over Katrina Dycer’s Koroit side in another cliffhanger result. One shot got Hawker’s side over the line.
In the over 60s singles final, victories went to Paul Symmons from Warrnambool and Val Smith from Mortlake. Congratulations to all winners.
Don’t forget that entries for the WBDD championship singles close on October 23. Day one is scheduled for Sunday, October 30 at City Memorial.
Round two of Saturday pennant was completed, with the big three of Warrnambool Gold, City Red and Koroit Blue all looking ominous. Each had big wins over their rivals.
Round one of Tuesday pennant was played out, in spite of the gloomy weather that was forecast. At the completion of round one, City Gold heads the division one table, while in divisions two and three Dennington Red and Dennington White lead the way.
This week’s feature club is Terang Bowls Club. Founded in 1911, the club has a combined total of 82 male and female members.
The club fields sides in divisions one, two and four in Saturday pennant and divisions one and three in Tuesday pennant.
As for facilities, the club has two synthetic greens and substantial club rooms. Social bowls consists of three bowl nominated triples held on the first Wednesday of every month.
Training nights are every Friday from 3pm. New and aspiring bowlers are most welcome to attend, with coaching and assistance available to get you started.
The club recently held a come and try day which attracted 10 new members.
As far as club luminaries go, Kevin Lee certainly comes to mind. He has bagged a total of 25 club championships, been runner-up eight times, participated in group events 21 times and represented Victoria twice.
Terang is also home to bowling royalty in Margaret Sumner. Margaret has amassed a personal list of accolades too numerous to mention.
Aside from local dominance, Margaret went on to represent Australia in numerous world events and was twice selected in the Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal in 1998. She has also been the recipient of an Order of Australia medal and been inducted into the Bowls Australia hall of fame. A grand career indeed.
