Opening duo Brian Wilson and Kevin Watts joined to post a combined score of 69, while number three Jack Ansell added 22 runs to the total until he was dismissed by Grant Cameron late in the innings.
Yambuk captain Brian Wilson said while the performance was “scratchy” at times, he was pleased to have an even spread of contributors in the win.
“I thought Jack (Ansell) opened well, before Kevin Watts and Jamie Squires brought it home strongly,” he said.
“The fielding was good and we restricted their runs quite well. It was pretty scratchy at times and there was a bit of luck in our batting, but we’re just trying to get the club back on track and we did well against a good side.”
Wilson said players would begin to filter back into the side over the next couple of weeks.
He said the sole aim of the club would be to continue to win and to “build confidence”.
“They’re a side we think will be thereabouts,” he said.
“At the end of the day, there is 13 games for us to try to win and in the first round, it’s just about building that confidence for us.
“For those younger guys in the side, your Joseph Forrest and Tyson Umbers-type players, confidence is important.”
Despite falling by 11 runs, Purnim will be buoyed by the efforts of playing coach Tom Smith – who managed a starring six wicket, three maiden spell from eight overs.
He conceded just 13 runs from his 48 balls.
