Last week, Warrnambool’s last video shop closed down – no longer can we peruse the shelves and rent a pile of DVDs to watch in the comfort of our own homes.
Another movie-watching format that is no longer available in Warrnambool is the drive-in theatre – and 50 years ago, it was the place to be seen.
We found this advertisement for the drive-in on page 13 of The Standard on Wednesday October 5, 1966.
The feature film is the famous Some Like It Hot with the star-studded cast of Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.
The film, first released in 1959, was somewhat racy for its time, carrying with it the recommendation “not suitable for children”.
