Sergeant Heather Morris of Cobden police said the accident occurred about 4.30pm on the Cobden-Port Campbell Road at Newfield.
She said a silver Camry containing a honeymooning couple from Italy was heading south when it crossed on to the wrong side on a blind bend. It collided head-on with a Captiva carrying a family of six – two adults and four children – from Melbourne.
Sergeant Morris said the Italian woman in the passenger seat was taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital with head injuries but amazingly the seven other people in the crash received no injuries.
She said both cars were written off. The Italian tourist – a man in his early 30s – who was driving the south-bound car will receive a penalty notice for driving on the wrong side of the road, Sergeant Morris said.
