The Power’s promising season ended with a heartbreaking two-point loss at the hands of Nirranda yesterday.
They surged late, booting four goals in the final term, but could only creep within a whisker of the Blues despite boasting strong pressure-act statistics and a number of inside 50s.
Power coach Danny Finn said his side received a “lesson in finals football”.
“That’s probably happened over the last couple of weeks, in terms of that pressure. Maybe throughout the year we had more time to adjust and we used that ability to get the contested ball,” he said.
“I think half of the team can do it, and the other half have a bit to work on. That’s pretty honest, but they know that.”
He said the club would look to build on the experience of finals football for next season.
“I got a group which finished sixth or seventh, and we’ve made consecutive finals. We finished fifth last year, and we’ve improved a spot to fourth now,” Finn said.
“We’re not happy with that at all. We did have a large turnover of players last year, so we’re hoping to keep this group and maybe even get a few back and going forward, that’s our way.
“There are a few blokes that obviously quite disappointed but the group will stick together and we’ll keep pushing forward. We’re not far away.” Danny Finn will again lead the Power in 2017.
