Freedman and Bowman spent time working for the powerful Darren Weir operation before launching solo training careers. Both polled 88 votes to be breakaway winner from third-placed Archie Alexander (43 votes).
Meanwhile, Weir put the icing on a record-breaking season by claiming his first Fred Hoysted Medal, which is presented to the trainer who, in the eyes of the voting panel, produced the most outstanding training performance of the season on Victorian tracks.
Weir polled 180 votes for preparing long-shot Prince of Penzance to record an historic win in the Emirates Melbourne Cup in November 2015. Veteran jockey Dwayne Dunn won his first Scobie Breasley Medal.
