Leadership Great South Coast executive officer Amanda Hennessy emphasised the crucial need for women to fill society’s top positions at Friday’s roadshow.
“The statistics tell us that when we have diversity in the room we are going to make better decisions,” Ms Hennessy said. Half of her organisation’s board is made up of women.
“For any woman, the passion that you bring to this conversation is from very much a personal experience and we know the challenges that we have all faced.”
Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West executive officer Emily Lee-Ack said a range of opportunities needed to be visible to young people through diverse role models.
“In a rural community that is really important because we want all young people to have great aspiration to being whatever it is that they want to be,” Ms Lee-Ack said.
“What young women are seeing when they look around their community is the people who are in charge, the people who earn the most money, the people who are most respected in the community – those people aren’t women.”
