But for Warrnambool and District under 14.5 leading goalkicker Max Lenehan, the focus remains on his team.
The versatile Merrivale Tiger booted an incredible 19.9 on Saturday, taking his season tally to 99 majors.
Even with the big 100 in sight, he is more concerned with ensuring the ladder-leading Tigers can keep their good form up.
“I’d be pretty happy with myself (if I get there), but I’d probably rather win the grand final than kick 100 goals,” he said.
Max credited his teammates for helping him out and giving him good supply, saying the midfield was the Tigers’ greatest strength.
His coach Cameron O’Flaherty said Max – who also pinch-hits in the ruck and sweeps across half-back – was a selfless player.
“He’s kicked 99 goals for the year and I would say he’s given away nearly as many as well,” O’Flaherty said.
Hot on Max’s heels in the goalkicking race is Kolora-Noorat’s Isaac Kenna, who has 93 goals to his credit and a similar team-first mindset.
Isaac, who turns 15 this month, spends most of the time on the ball, but slips forward to great effect.
“I didn’t really expect it coming into the season, but now that it (100 goals) is around the corner, it’s in the back of my mind, but I just focus on the team,” he said.
“We’re sitting third on the ladder at the moment, so hopefully we can go far into finals.”
