Castle Rock at the Twelve Apostles, the Blowhole at Loch Ard Gorge and Campbell’s Creek in Port Campbell are all set for upgraded visitor infrastructure under the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan.
Early investigative work, including site surveys and seismic testing are now under way to help pinpoint the best locations.
Castle Rock and the Blowhole are both locations for new viewing platforms and Campbell’s Creek will get a new pedestrian bridge and connection to the Discovery Walk.
West coast district manager Dale Antonysen said work began on Monday near the Twelve Apostles visitor site at Castle Rock lookout and in the Loch Ard Gorge precinct.
“Survey work will also be completed in Port Campbell, along Campbell’s Creek,” he said.
“Observant park visitors will notice specialised seismic testing equipment being set out at these locations. Testing will involve the operator spreading wires out across the survey area and then measuring shock waves by hitting the ground with a special sledge hammer.”
It is part of a $9.8-million state government funding pledge for stage one of the masterplan announced in May.
