Believed to be the largest geographical community arts project in Victoria, the festival draws on the region’s most famous natural resource – wool.
It showcases its creative potential with a broad range of community art projects.
Co-ordinators Naomi Turner and Jacinta Wareham, who fondly refer to themselves as ‘Chief Knit -wits’, are pleased with attendance numbers.
“The theme of this year’s festival is unifying a community and there is already a feeling of connectedness,” Ms Turner said.
The festival runs until August 7 and upcoming events include a tea cosy exhibition and high tea, extra yarn shopfronts, Friday night Fuzz and the final unravelling.
“It began with a book called An extra yarn about a little girl who knits herself and her dog a jumper. She soon covers every building in the town with wool.
“It’s about the power of kindness and generosity in transforming a town.”
