A TRUCK was hit by a falling tree on the Princes Highway in one of more than 60 incidents during fierce storms in the south-west on Monday.

Sergeant Martin Flannery of Portland police said no one in the truck was injured but its windscreen was damaged. The incident closed the Princes Highway at Dartmoor for about an hour from 2.20pm on Monday. Sergeant Flannery said the Princes Highway was also blocked by fallen trees at Greenwald and Lyons, both east of Dartmoor.
Peter Wall from the State Emergency Service said it had 62 callouts across the south-west on Monday, with the bulk of them after 3pm.
The callouts were mainly to clear trees from roads but some were for five buildings that received minor damage.
Wind gusts of up to 126 kilometres an hour were recorded on Monday at Mount Gellibrand near Colac, up to 111 kmh at Mount William in the Grampians and 100 kmh at Cape Nelson near Portland. Rainfalls from 9am-7.30pm included 7.6 mm at Warrnambool and 10.2 mm at Hamilton.
