Portland police were called to an incident on Sunday night about 8.30pm after a dispute between neighbours.
A 40-year-old man was arrested after the incident turned physical.
He was already on bail on charges of breaching intervention orders in Melbourne and was remanded in custody on Sunday to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday for a bail/remand application.
The man has been charged with assault- related offending and possession of cannabis.
Police allege the victim, a man in his 30s, suffered facial injuries.
