The Seahawks host Sunbury Jets at the Arc on Saturday night, eager to cap off their home-court dominance with an 11th straight win in front of their fans.
A triumph will cement their spot in the top two and deliver them a home qualifying final the following week.
But the Matt Alexander-coached roster could still finish second if both it and Casey Cavaliers drop their final regular season matches.
Alexander said Warrnambool, coming off an 85-76 loss to reigning champions Melton Thoroughbreds, was desperate to keep its imposing Arc record in tact.
“The guys really lift when they’re playing at home and want to finish the season with a 100 per cent winning record at home, that’s our goal,” he said.
“It’s good to get a loss out of the way before the finals. You can easily get complacent if you’re constantly winning even when you’re playing badly.
“I think the guys are still pretty upbeat and are feeling confident (after the Melton loss).”
Warrnambool was without star forward Alex Gynes, who is managing a back complaint, against Melton.
The Seahawks were a point down at quarter-time and two points in arrears at the main break.
The Thoroughbreds’ 19-12 third term set up a match-winning buffer.
Alexander said Gynes’ loss was hard felt.
“Without Alex, we don’t match up that well,” he said.
“They have two bigs. If you put Alex in the mix – at his best we win the game.
“We missed Alex’s unpredictability to the opposition.”
Nathan Sobey had a double-double, sinking a game-high 42 points to go with 13 rebounds and American recruit Xavier Johnson-Blount scored 20 points.
Sobey’s influence could have been greater after he made only five of 18 three-point attempts.
No other Seahawk managed to hit double figures.
“We battled hard and got a lot of open looks and if we knocked down shots, we win the game,” Alexander said.
“Nathan did some amazing things taking the ball to the hoop.
“He shot a lot of threes and a lot were rimming out. It’s a game of millimetres at times.
“I wasn’t unhappy with his shot selection. His attack at the basket was spectacular.”
Meanwhile, Warrnambool suffered a humbling 102-56 youth league division two loss to Chelsea Gulls.
