Warrnambool police Sergeant Cameron Ross said one man was pulled over after he was seen suspiciously driving around the central business district about that time.
"When intercepted he was a bit evasive when asked what he was doing," he said.
"He lived on the other side of town. In the end he admitted he had just finished work and was driving around the CBD looking for Pokemon characters.
"The police members were just left shaking their heads. I would have thought it was a bit cold for that but the night shift crew said there were people driving around all night," he said.
The new smartphone game has seen people pounding the streets trying to capture virtual creatures.
