The speedway committee has requested to alter signage controls that apply to the sporting site at Allansford.
The issue will come before Warrnambool City councillors on Monday evening.
The speedway is located in a farming zone, under which advertising signage has ‘maximum limitation’.
Business identification signage is restricted to a total of three metres squared in area, however the speedway wants to install signage that will stretch 49.8 metres in length. It will include red individual cut letters measuring a height of 1.04 metres attached to the existing fence.
In 2005 signage spelling out Premier Speedway was removed from the front fence, with the intent of having it replaced. The replacement sign took longer than anticipated and it is now prohibited under the current planning scheme provisions.
In order to allow the replacement sign to go ahead, an amendment to the planning scheme is required.
Also on the agenda is the establishment of a shopfront improvement and access fund, as part of the city centre renewal project. The proposed fund would be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $3000 for shopfront improvements and internal all abilities access.
The council meeting begins at 5.45pm at the WCC reception room. A special meeting will begin at 5pm, with the councillor code of conduct review on the agenda.
