James Fenech, 24, pleaded guilty in the Hamilton Magistrates Court via a video link with Warrnambool to a range of charges including causing criminal damage, unlawful assault, failing to answer bail and making threats to kill.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said the cause of the offending was Fenech's unacceptable attitude towards women with whom he was in a relationship.
He said Fenech needed to realise there were significant consequences for being involved in family violence.
Police said two incidents happened, in October last year and April this year, which led to the charges.
In one of the incidents Fenech asked a woman he was in a relationship with to get him a six-pack of beer and when she didn't his poor behaviour escalated.
Damage charges related to breaking a letterbox and car window.
Fenech also received a community corrections order in 2013 for similar offending involving one of the same victims and that order included a condition for anger management.
Defence counsel Rebecca Digney said her client completed 125 hours of community work through that order with only one absence.
She said Fenech had a cognitive deficit but despite coming in contact with services four times he had never been assessed for an intellectual disability.
"His mother states he's always had anger issues and attempts have been made through various services but he's slipped through the cracks," Ms Digney said.
The solicitor said Fenech also had memory issues which led to him missing court dates and he started using ice 12 months ago.
"In both incidents drugs and alcohol were significant factors," Ms Digney said, explaining that Fenech now had a new partner, had stopped using ice and reduced his consumption of alcohol.
Ms Digney said Fenech had been on a disability support pension since he was 16 years old but she had not been able to determine his disability.
She said arguments had got out of hand, there was tit-for-tat behaviour and Fenech admitted he had reacted poorly.
