The event, in its fourth year in Warrnambool, celebrates the shortest day of the year, which actually falls on Tuesday this year.
But before the group of about 60 swimmers took the plunge, the club christened its new inflatable rescue boat.
Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club vice-president John McNeil said the club’s growth had reached a new record, with 516 members on the books. Mr McNeil said it was also the first time the club was nominated for the Club of the Year award with Life Saving Victoria. Five club members have also been nominated for awards.
The winners will be announced at the end of July.
