The consultative group will assist Warrnambool City Council with the delivery of the $15 million Warrnambool city centre renewal.
Sue Cassidy from Unisexcuts, Heidi Wisniewski from Enique Eco Store, Bruce Ludeman from Ludeman Real Estate, Jo Esam from Priceline, Max Taylor from Taylor’s Surfodesy and Debbie Arnott from Style 105 have been named on the leadership group, which will be chaired by Mayor Kylie Gaston.
The group will help with business promotion during the stage one construction period, which is set to begin in February next year.
“We had excellent nominations and it was great to see people putting themselves forward to be part of the revitalisation program,” Cr Gaston said.
“The group of six traders is made up of positive and proactive leaders who will communicate with their fellow traders – they will be the connection to council.
“It is exciting that they will be able to help with marketing ideas and contribute to ensuring Liebig Street remains vibrant and busy during the construction period.”
WCC manager city renewal Tanya Egan said the leadership group included a broad range of business people from different services and trades.
“They will all see the issues from different angles,” she said.
Mr Taylor said the renewal could only make the CBD more attractive to shoppers.
“I am very enthused to see the rejuvenation come to fruition,” he said.
“You don’t have to look too far out into Liebig Street to see it is tired and in need of repair.
“There is a major need for this renewal and council has done a great job securing $10 million state and federal funding.
“We have to grin and bear the next two years and the end result should be fantastic.”
Stage one of construction will comprise the central and northern blocks of Liebig Street and will take place from February to October next year.
Stage two of construction includes the southern block of Liebig Street between Timor and Koroit streets and Koroit Street between Liebig and Kepler streets.
It will take place from February to October in 2018.
I am very enthused to see the rejuvenation come to fruition.
