Hunt was controversially handed a one-match ban by the Warrnambool and District league independent tribunal at Panmure player Kallan Melican’s headbutting hearing on May 25.
Hunt, named as the offended player on the umpires’ report, refuted he had been headbutted, saying a gash above his eye was instead the result of a strike.
The tribunal deemed he had been headbutted and ruled Hunt to be in breach of rule 7.6.16 of the AFL Victoria rules and regulations, believing he gave evidence designed to mislead.
The hearing was reconvened on Monday night as Hunt had not been given the opportunity to plead his case at the initial sitting.
The tribunal stuck with its initial ruling, but reconsidered Hunt’s sanction, instead handing him a two-week suspended sentence that would hang over his head until the end of the 2017 season.
Timboon Demons president Andrew Berry said the club was appealing on the grounds Hunt had not been given the opportunity to present evidence – including statutory declarations claiming teammate Luke Davison had been the recipient of the alleged headbutt, not Hunt.
“We feel his integrity has now been diminished not only in football but in the community,” Berry said.
“We want to rectify that.”
The details of when the appeal will be heard are yet to be finalised.
