Lachlan Rhook is the latest youth league player set for division one minutes after a blistering 35-point game against Western Port Steelers.
The emerging point guard will suit up for the high-flying men’s team at the Arc on Saturday night as it tries to make Keilor Thunder its 10th scalp of the season.
Warrnambool coach Matt Alexander said Rhook, who plays football for North Warrnambool Eagles, would come in for Josh Dean.
Dean, coming off a 15-point, six-rebound game, will miss with study commitments.
“Lachie is playing really well in the youth league,” Alexander said.
“We’ll look to get him on court a bit more.
“He played in the CBL team with me (when I was coach) and really impressed me with his game sense and awareness off the ball.
“He gets deflections and when the game is on the line he seems to be the most relaxed guy on the court.”
Warrnambool will play one game this weekend after three consecutive double-header weekends.
Alexander said the Seahawks were thrilled with their efforts during that tough stretch.
They improved their record to 9-2 to sit second on the 15-team ladder.
“To go five from six in the double-headers was a great effort,” he said.
“I was especially (happy) with the way we finished.
“The way we are playing together as a team (is great) and we’re getting a nice blend of individual plays, so that’s pleasing. If we play like that against Keilor, they will find it hard to beat us.”
Alexander said the Seahawks were thrilled with Nathan Sobey’s form.
The Adelaide 36ers guard leads the Big V division one competition in six positive statistical categories –total points (327), average points (32.7), total assists (61), average assists (6.1) and three points made (51).
“He had one down game against Sunbury when his shots weren’t going down but ever since then he’s been on fire,” Alexander said.
“He’s had a nice blend of ball movement and has showed why he’s in the NBL and why he should be playing more minutes in the NBL.”
Warrnambool plays Keilor at 8pm on Saturday. The youth league side will play a curtain-raiser at 6pm and then travel to Craigieburn on Sunday.
